All around the world, people are choosing Green Design -- vacations, destinations, and experiences that support wellness. The Global Wellness Institute (GWI) reports that wellness tourism and wellness real estate make up $651 billion and $398 billion respectively of the global wellness economy.
According to VRBO's Sustainable Travel Study (Expedia Group Media Solutions), consumers look for sustainability in environmental impact, supporting local economies and cultures, and visiting less touristy destinations. Three in five consumers have opted for more eco friendly lodging, avoiding those that don't seem authentic. Wellness tourists want a smaller environmental footprint where they stay -- saving energy, creating less waste, and choosing properties where interiors are thoughtfully designed with sustainable practices in mind.
Whether it's for a home to live in, or home to rent out, we're looking for recycled, repurposed, biodegradable, ethically harvested, salvaged, artisan... as well as live plants for mental and emotional health or ability to filter toxins from the air, to seamlessly transition design from outdoor lounges to spa-like interiors. We follow the evolution toward better products for the planet and how products define these terms.
Promoting wellness in our lived-in spaces is an intention for a growing number of people -- locally and abroad -- seeking a healthier lifestyle.
